Slap Fives not Wives is a high-five-a-thon to benefit SafeHomes while raising awareness about domestic violence in our community. This event pits local celebrities against each other to see who can high five the most people in an hour at the Augusta Mall. For each high five they slap, the celebrities raise funds for SafeHomes and our mission to end domestic violence.  The high five-a-thon begins at noon and this year we are excited to have Paige Tucker from NBC 26 and Cher Best 96.3 Kiss FM. Donate here

Once again SafeHomes is inviting the community to Take Aim at Domestic Violence during its 3^rd annual trap shooting event on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Pinetucky Gun Club. Both professionals and novices of the sport, ages 12 and up, are invited to compete. Fees include two rounds of trap, ammunition, and an old fashion cookout with beverages. Spectators are also invited to join in the fun while showing their support by purchasing a dinner ticket for $15.

After the trap rounds are concluded, dinner will be served, along with the presentation of awards and a raffle drawing for a Stoeger Model 3000 12-gauge shotgun. Ticket holders do not have to be present to win. Information and registration forms are available below, at the SafeHomes administrative office, and other locations. Raffle tickets can be purchased from SafeHomes by calling (706)736-2499 or through the trap shoot registration form. All monies raised through this event will be directed back into the local programs and services offered by SafeHomes.

Awards will be presented to the top three individuals in each flight, the top three youth participants, and to the overall winning team.

EVENT DETAILS

• Pinetucky Gun Club will provide a shotgun to participants who need one-- quantity is limited.

• No alcohol is allowed before or during the shooting event. NO EXCEPTIONS.

• Safety glasses and hearing protection are required in all shooting areas.

• The Lewis Class Scoring system will be used.

• Raffle entrants are not required to be present to win. Entrants must be at least 18 years of age to win a firearm. All firearm transfers will be governed by all applicable laws.

• Spectators are invited, the $15 registration fee will include dinner and beverages.

Get Ready for Jingle Jam 10K 2012!

The Jingle Jam 10K benefiting SafeHomes promotes healthy lifestyles through fitness and furthers our mission to transform victims of domestic violence into SURVIVORS!

The Jingle Jam 10K is a fun-filled, Christmas-themed road race featuring music, choirs, Santa Claus, and a costume contest! Runners get jingle bells to lace into their shoes so they can "jingle all the way" to the finish line! Chip timers as well as a timing system to accurately process start and finish times.

This two-day festival consists of the Packet Pick-Up Expo on Friday, November 30, 2012 at the Savannah Rapids Pavilion, and the 10K road race on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Evans Towne Center Park in Evans, Georgia.

Runners receive a long-sleeved Dri-Fit t-shirt, jingle bells, and other awesome giveaways from our sponsors in their Jingle Jam Swag Bags! We promise to NEVER put ads for other races in our Swag Bags and only put items runners actually want!

This year's costume contest will feature individual and group categories with a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner in each. Winners of the costume contest will receive a cash prize!

VICTIM NO MORE is an upcoming short film about Domestic Violence and those who survived, those who did not, and those who dream to one day live a life free of fear and despair. Domestic Violence can affect anyone, anywhere, anytime. Victim No More was written and directed by James Noland, was produced in association with SafeHomes and SeiglerHD Productions.

This film was released in October in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Although the characters in the film are ficticious, most are actual survivors. This film is a message to those who are in an abusive relationship, in the hopes that they will take the next step toward a better life.

SafeHomes October Awareness Events

 The first "Day of Unity" was observed in October 1981 by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The intent for the awareness day was to connect battered women's advocates across the nation who were working to end violence against women and their children. The Day of Unity soon became a special week when a range of awareness activities were conducted at local, state, and national levels. Ultimately the recognition evolved into the first Domestic Violence Awareness Month, observed in 1987.

Enjoy a catered lunch while learning about drug-facilitated sexual assault. This event is also a part of Alcohol Awareness Week. This free event is open only to ASU Faculty, Staff, and Students.

Wednesday, October 10, 2012: Paint the Town Purple, Community Wide/Regionally 

SafeHomes encourages all to wear purple for the day to show support and bring awareness to Domestic Violence, in the hopes of prevention. Organizations, businesses, and individuals are encouraged to designate as many days during the month as Paint the Town Purple days. This could be every Friday during October, or twice a week, or just on the 10th. The organization Sean’s Last Wish, Inc. was organized and founded by Sean’s mother, Elke Kennedy, one week after his murder in 2007. Their mission is to “empower the community through educational diversity programs, non-violent conflict resolution, and community involvement.” This powerful display is open to the public, and can be viewed all day.

Thursday, October 25, 2012: Annual Survivors' Walk, ASU Campus, Grove area by Fountain 6:30-8:00pm

In partnership with SafeHomes and Augusta State University, the community will honor all survivors of domestic violence as SafeHomes hosts their annual Survivor’s Walk on the ASU campus. The event features commentary from university, local, and state officials, along with testimonies from survivors, a balloon release, and a march through ASU’s History Walk.

The Art of Protest as Resistance to Violence

This event will be sponsored in part by the ASU Women’s Studies Department, and will consist of a panel presentation by individuals in the local region who are knowledgeable about the use of creative expression in protesting and resisting violence. The event will also involve display of art and media. The location and date and time are currently to be determined.
