Thank you for your interest in joining our team as an intern. Interning with our agency offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful and rewarding change in your community. SafeHomes accepts intern applications at designated times throughout the year as described below.
SafeHomes works with students in undergraduate and some graduate degree programs. We frequently host students who are working toward degrees in psychology, social work, criminal justice, human services, public relations, nonprofit management and other related fields.
Counseling Interns
Counseling interns assist with answering the agency crisis line, assessing the danger/safety of the client, providing the caller with emotional support, linking the caller to appropriate resources and documenting case notes and services as appropriate. Additionally, counseling interns complete appropriate documentation to include intake forms and financial packets for those in need of financial assistance and assist with the facilitation of group counseling. Counseling interns also provide clients with individual counseling and participate in all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Public Relations Interns
Public relations interns assist the Development Director with various SafeHomes initiatives, including event planning and execution, creating graphic design materials, and assisting with social media content. Public relations interns also assist in drafting press releases, newsletters, and other communication materials to raise awareness of the organization’s mission and services, coordinate outreach efforts with local media, community partners, and donors and help with fundraising campaigns and donor relations, including maintaining communication with supporters. Public relations interns also conduct research to identify media trends, potential partners, and advocacy opportunities and assist with the creation of educational materials related to domestic violence prevention and awareness and participate in all other duties as assigned.

Outreach Interns
Outreach interns assist with answering the agency crisis line, assessing the danger/safety of the client, providing the caller with emotional support, linking the caller to appropriate resources and documenting case notes and services as appropriate. Additionally, outreach interns assist with scheduling outreach appointments and intakes as necessary and coordinate transportation for clients as needed as well as other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- If you are a survivor, it is important that you have been out of the domestic violence relationship for at least two years.
- Must understand the importance of maintaining all codes of confidentiality.
- Must have an acceptable public record and reputation.
- Must have the desire and passion to give back to the community and help those who have been affected by domestic violence.
